Project Description
Through this initiative, the The Alliance Church partner aims to expand its commitment to disability inclusion by strengthening its capacity to serve people with physical disabilities, individuals who are visually impaired, DEAF, and those with intellectual or cognitive disabilities. The church is committed to deepening a culture of inclusivity by intentionally promoting the presence, contributions, and gifts of people with disabilities—voices that are often overlooked or undervalued.
Through the formation of an Inclusion Team, the church seeks to build its capacity to welcome and embrace new communities by fostering meaningful relationships, identifying and addressing barriers to participation, and affirming the vital role every person plays in the Body of Christ.
Over the next two years, this initiative will prioritize the following areas: spiritual & leadership mentoring among believers who are visually impaired; the development of an inclusive Sunday school program with trained volunteers that supports the needs of all children, with particular attention to children with intellectual disabilities; and intentional engagement with church communities in conversations about God and the Body of Christ through the lens of disability theology.
In addition, this initiative will assist with practical support that is offered by the church to support people's ability to attend, including: transportation for individuals with mobility limitations, support for personal care and hygiene needs , and nutritional assistance.
