Role Summary

This is a newly defined senior leadership role created at a pivotal moment in the life of The Alliance Canada. As the organization transitions from the National Lead Team (NLT) to the Alliance Lead Team (ALT) and integrates shared strategies across national and international expressions, this VP role serves as the primary leadership voice for national ministry alignment, coordination, and implementation.

In short, this role ensures that what The Alliance says it is doing together is actually happening together. Shared leadership. Shared strategy. Shared outcomes.

Specifically, this role exists to:

  • Add capacity to scale the work and foundational strategies within the shared national ministry initiatives identified in the Alliance Ministries placemat
  • Free the President to focus on the Alliance Group of Ministries, partnerships, and development in this next chapter
  • Ensure the Alliance’s shared strategy is not merely articulated — but aligned, coordinated, and implemented across the movement

This VP works in close partnership with the VP International and the VP of Operations & Strategy Implementation. While the VP International leads the international expression of Alliance Ministries, this role carries the National Ministry Center expression — with shared accountability to the movement’s unified Vision 2034 goals.

Core Responsibilities

1. Lead National Ministry Implementation

  • Provide senior leadership for the national expression of Alliance Ministries through the National Ministry Center
  • Translate Vision 2034 into clear national priorities, coordinated initiatives, and measurable outcomes
  • Ensure continued progress across all four strategic growth drivers: Prayer, Leaders, Ministries, and Stewardship & Effectiveness
  • Operate through and within the Alliance Ministries team structure — not around it

2. Champion Shared National Ministry Initiatives

  • Provide strategic oversight and championship for nationally aligned ministry initiatives, organized across the four strategic drivers:
  • Prayer — National prayer events and district-level prayer mobilization; discerning and advancing shared prayer priorities across the movement
  • Leaders — Discerning Individuals pathway, Hub Churches, and Alliance Experiences, supporting the identification and formation of the next generation of ministry leaders
  • Ministries — New Ventures (church multiplication), PEAK (leadership and church development), and Flourishing Congregations (church vitality)
  • Stewardship & Effectiveness — North Trellis and shared operational support structures that resource churches and districts

This VP champions them across districts and ensures shared ownership throughout the movement.

3. Facilitate the Alliance Lead Team (ALT)

  • Design and lead ALT meetings — a table that brings together District Superintendents, Vice Presidents, and the President around shared drivers and shared outcomes
  • Ensure ALT functions as a strategic alignment and coordination table — not merely a reporting table
  • Ensure strategic clarity, shared priorities, and accountability across districts and the National Ministry Center
  • Drive follow-through on ALT commitments and decisions
  • Serve as the connective tissue between what is decided at ALT and what is implemented across the movement
  • The President remains a member of this team

4. Strengthen District–National Alignment

  • Work closely with District Superintendents — to engage, as appropriate, with stakeholders — to ensure national initiatives reflect district realities
  • Cultivate shared ownership of strategy and create coordinated implementation rhythms across the movement
  • Support the development and standardization of key DS support functions, including: DS onboarding, training for inquiry, investigation and discipline processes, Nominations Committee standardization, DS contract and compensation frameworks, and annual DS evaluation processes developed in collaboration with DEXCOMs and National
  • Work in partnership with the President to ensure the DS role is well-resourced, clearly defined, and set up for success in its relationship to the National Ministry Center
  • Identify and address parallel systems in favour of unified, movement-wide approaches where appropriate

5. Lead and Develop the Alliance Ministries Team

  • Provide direct leadership to three Director-level roles: Director of Strategic Alignment and Integration, Director of Church Development, and Director of Leader Formation
  • Foster an integrated, high-functioning team culture with clear accountabilities and shared direction
  • Ensure alignment and coordination across all Alliance Ministries team members — including appropriate integration across national and international expressions
  • Coach and develop direct reports toward greater leadership capacity and ministry effectiveness

6. Support and Extend the President’s Capacity

  • Carry day-to-day national ministry leadership, enabling the President to focus on the Alliance Group of Ministries and external partnerships
  • Ensure continuity, implementation strength, and organizational momentum as the President’s scope expands
  • Serve as a trusted extension of presidential leadership — not simply an operational layer
  • Serve as an appropriate intermediary on complex ecclesiastical matters — providing an additional level of engagement on files before escalation to the President, where warranted and as directed
  • Attend Board of Directors meetings and contribute to board reporting at the request of the President, in keeping with current practice for VP-level roles

Leadership Competencies & Profile

The ideal candidate is a seasoned movement leader who combines strategic vision with a demonstrated capacity to align and mobilize people toward shared outcomes. • Builds trust across diverse leadership cultures and geographies
  • Is a unifying presence — draws people toward shared purpose rather than competing priorities

Implementation & Alignment Discipline

  • Creates systems and rhythms that keep strategy moving from conversation to action
  • Holds people accountable to shared commitments — within both direct reporting and peer/influence relationships
  • Able to identify and resolve misalignment — including structural and relational barriers
  • Comfortable navigating organizational ambiguity and helping lead through it constructively

Table Leadership

  • Skilled facilitator of senior leadership tables, including the ALT
  • Ensures meetings produce clarity, alignment, and follow-through — not just discussion
  • Designs meeting rhythms and structures that serve distinct purposes across a complex, multi-stakeholder movement

Team Development

  • Develops and integrates a high-functioning, diverse ministry team
  • Coaches and equips leaders toward greater effectiveness and shared ownership
  • Models the culture and values of The Alliance in leadership style and practice

  • Deep familiarity with The Alliance Canada’s vision, values, culture, and organizational history
  • Demonstrated capacity to translate strategic vision into coordinated implementation
  • Strong facilitation and alignment skills in senior leadership contexts
  • Ordained or credentialed with The Alliance Canada (or eligible)

Assets

  • Experience facilitating senior leadership tables (boards, lead teams, district or national bodies)
  • Familiarity with church multiplication, leader formation, and church health frameworks
  • Experience navigating denominational polity, ecclesiastical processes, and district-national relationships
  • Graduate-level theological or ministry leadership education
